  1. The Chess.com Classic which is part of the Champions Chess Tour took place Fri 10th to Wed 15th May 2024 on Chess.com. The format is Double Elimination Knockout. Carlsen, Ivic, Lazavik, Nepomniachtchi, Firouzja, Duda, Keymer and Sarana play for the title in Division 1. There were two further divisions which had qualification places for the division above. Alireza Firouzja overcame a loss to Jan-Krzysztof Duda in the first round to progress through the losers half and then beat Magnus Carlsen twice in a row in the Grand Final and its reset to take the title.
  2. The Superbet Poland Rapid & Blitz took place in Warsaw 6th to 13th May 2024. Players: Magnus Carlsen, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Wei Yi, Arjun Erigaisi, Vincent Keymer, Kirill Shevchenko, Dommaraju Gukesh, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu and Anish Giri. Magnus Carlsen just edged out Wei Yi with a dominant 7/7 blitz start to the final day including beating Wei Yi. Wei Yi won the rapid, half a point clear of Carlsen. Carlsen won the blitz by 1.5 points from Wei Yi, both were miles clear of everyone else. Wei Yi has been a well known figure for at least 10 years becoming a GM at 13, now at 24 he finally seems to be living up to his undoubted potential.
  3. The 57th Capablanca Memorial takes place 3rd to 12th May 2024. Ruslan Ponomariov, Aryan Chopra, Luis Ernesto Quesada Perez, Evgeny Romanov, Carlos Daniel Albornoz Cabrera and Mads Andersen play.
  4. The 28th Tepe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament took place in Malmo 27th April to 3rd May 2024. Players: Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Arjun Erigaisi, Vincent Keymer, Peter Svidler, Nils Grandelius, Anton Korobov, Marc'Andria Maurizzi and Ju Wenjun. There was a three way tie on 4.5/7. Nodirbek Abdusattorov emerged the winner over Arjun Erigaisi in a second tie-break, Peter Svidler lost to both these players in the first tie-break.
  5. The German Schachbundesliga took place over 15 rounds Sat 21st Oct to Sun 28th Apr 2024. SC Viernheim were the surprise champions winning all their matches and finishing 3 points clear of Baden-Baden. This is the first time Baden-Baden didn't win the league since the 2015/16 season, and only the second time they didn't win since their first title in 2005/06.
  6. The 24th European Women's Championship takes place Thu 18th Apr to Tue 30th Apr 2024 in Rhodes, Greece. Top seeds: Yuliia Osmak, Marsel Efroimski, Bella Khotenashvili, Dinara Wagner, Antoaneta Stefanova, Lela Javakhishvili etc
  7. The Dutch League took place 16th September 2023 to 20th April 2024. Kennemer Combinatie had already won the league before this weekend's final round.
